My key quit working! What do I do?

So, who runs this place?

We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is run volunteers, including a volunteer Board. See the About page for more details.

Is there a bathroom?

Yes, you can access one right off of the lobby. See the location via the floorplan on the Space page.

I’m at the space and something has gone wrong - injury, fire, flood, etc. Who do I notify?

First, contact the appropriate emergency services. In Tallahassee, the emergency phone number is 911. Second, notify info@makingawesome.org and the shop lead if there’s one for the area where you’re working.

How do I become a member?

Purchase a membership, agree to the Membership Agreement/Liability Waiver, and pick up your key.

Can I bring my children with me?

Yes, we’re a family friendly environment. However, children under 18, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For classes, please view the class description for details about children attending.

Can I attend classes if I’m not a member?

Yes! Classes are open to the public, unless specifically stated.

Where are classes held?

Most classes meet in the classroom, which is located in the back right corner of the first floor.

I’d like to donate something. How can I do that?

How can I volunteer?

We have lots of ways you can help the space and Making Awesome. We need teachers, shop leads, people to table at events, people to post our events on community calendars, knowledgeable people willing to do preventative maintenance on tools, experts to help people with their projects, etc. We encourage you to post in our Facebook Community, find a board member at an event, or email us at info@makingawesome.org.

What’s a makerspace?

A makerspace is a place where people with shared interests, especially in DIY efforts and creating, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge.

Can I schedule a tour?

Yes! We’d love to show you around. Email us at info@makingawesome.org to set up a time.

What’s included with a membership?

Members receive 24/7 access to the makerspace and access to all our tools and machines. Occasionally, we may need to reserve tools for classes or events, but we’ll post on our Facebook Group and share that information. The building has keycard access and you receive a keycard as a member. Members also receive discounts on some classes and priority access to new tools, like the Glowforge. Members may bring one guest with them, but the guest must sign a liability waiver.

What does a membership cost?

$25/month or $300 a year. See more details here.

What tools are in the space?

We have a wood shop, a soft shop, an e-shop, three 3d Printers, a Glowforge and the Florida Society of Goldsmiths has a jewelry shop in the space that members can use after clearance from FSG. We’re working on a complete tool inventory with details, but in the meantime you can see photos of most of the space on this page.

Who do I talk to if I have a question about a tool?

That depends on the tool. There are signs located throughout the shop indicating the shop lead who can be contacted for that area. If all else fails, email info@makingawesome.org.

Do I need to provide my own materials?

Yes, if you’re working on your own project. If you’re attending a class, materials will be provided and you’ll be instructed on what you need to bring. (it’s probably a laptop or tablet)

How do I cancel my membership?

If you set up your membership and have a login for this site, you can choose not to renew and you can cancel your membership via the site tools.

Can I teach a class?

Yes, please!

How do you decide what classes to have?

Honestly, we try to offer as many as we can. We poll our Facebook Community, we ask new members, and mine our contacts for people willing to teach at the space.
